All of the decorative decoys and songbirds on this site are of competition grade and have either placed or won Best In Show at major national competitions. To compete in a judged event the decoys must embody an exacting likeness to the specific species and also float in a manner that is inherent to the particular duck. All of the decorative decoys are hand crafted out of tupelo gum, a virtually grainless wood, that is found in swamplands in the southeastern parts of the United States. In addition to being hand crafted and one of a kind, 200-400 hours are spent on each decoy meticulously carving, texturing, painting, and getting the decoy to float with the proper profile and attitude specific to each duck.
